Just that little bit of joy

It’s really just that little bit of joy. That one that made my entire day. Only that. I have a feeling that I have been blessed with no professional callings in recent years. Life is about something deeper, and it manifested itself to me today in a singular moment. The calling upon my life is to be a light. It is to simply give a little joy… when I am able to.

If life was only a portfolio of those moments accompanied with the awareness of the act, then who cares about the rest. The world in that instant shone just a little bit brighter. The trees, the people, the bugs, they all heard it. I simply spoke up in a moment where walking along was the de facto, robot-like move, and had I passed by, the world wouldn’t have cared a bit. But I turned, and told them the truth, and they shined like diamonds, and I got to be a part of that.

If there were no garage bands then this would never have been written. That was my little joy today. I told them they sounded great and they were genuinely hyped. As I walked, I heard their child-like laughter. Simple and small, but not to be underestimated.

I wish to be the light of the world always. I look for the city up on the hill. I dive unto the depths of the sea looking for the pearl of great price. Why do I hide under a basket when it is infinitely better for the whole of heaven and earth to stand up and shine?

The entire world is an awfully big place to light up. So one garage today, the house tomorrow, and those sparks might turn to flame by the time night falls.
